Trainer Tips: March 2018

While working out on a stationary bicycle, you will notice a number of nobs and levers that adjust various aspects of the bike. As a user, you should be aware of what needs to be adjusted and what a proper fit looks like. The most important adjustment for any stationary bicycle at Island Health & Fitness is seat height. The height of your seat can determine whether a workout will be physically painful or not. The biggest issue that can come from a poorly fitted bike is knee pain. If you are feeling significant knee pain while riding a stationary bicycle then your bike seat position is incorrect. Ask one of our Exercise Physiologists and follow these steps to make your next workout pain free and feel stronger than ever!

1.      Set the top of the seat to your hip height.

2.      A proper fit is a balance between reaching and scrunched.

3.      Move your seat forward and back to have a comfortable reach on the bars so you are not over extending or too close to the handlebars.
