Group Fitness: The Benefits of Yoga

For many, this will sound familiar: You drive to work (sit), get to your office (sit all day), get back into your car (sit) and then get out of your car to do a workout to finish your day.

The typical daily posture is:

Head forward

Shoulders internally rotated and rounded

Torso, knees and hips all flexed, short and tight

Posterior chain lengthened and weak

Slowly and gradually, this becomes our “normal” as we sit in these positions 10 to 14 hours a day and eventually, it will catch up with us.

Adding yoga as part of your fitness/wellness program allows you to slow down and identify and correct these imbalances, Yoga is a perfect complement to sports and can benefit athletes of all disciplines, genders, ages and abilities.
