Island Health & Fitness Instructor Profile: Carrie Susskind

What classes do you teach at Island?
I currently teach Les Mills BODYPUMP™, BODYSTEP™, BODYATTACK™, BODYVIVE™ and RPM™ and am also certified to teach Les Mills BODYCOMBAT.

How long have you been teaching classes?
I started teaching Les Mills classes with BODYSTEP™ in spring 2010.

What training or conference have you attended recently?
I’ve attended several trainings over this past year including RPM™  and BODYVIVE™  initial trainings and Advanced Instructor Module (AIMII) for BODYSTEP and BODYPUMP. I am scheduled to attend a Quarterly workshop this month! I enjoy attending trainings. It is a great opportunity to meet fellow instructors and trainers, and learn more about the programs that I teach.  

Why do you teach group fitness classes?
I think of group fitness as a team sport comprised of athletes of all skills and abilities. The “score” is personal – lift more weight, jump higher, run faster, or spend an hour being active while socializing with your teammates – but the team makes it fun.  I love that feeling you get when the game gets tough and you know you played your best.  I enjoy seeing that sense of accomplishment in others.  Oh, and for the endorphins!

What is something that people might not know about you?
As a kid, I wanted to be a group fitness instructor when I grew up.  Dreams really do come true!

What is your regular job?
I am a PMP (Project Management Professional) working as a business analyst on process improvement projects.

What do you do for fun?
All things soccer with my family. Attending and hosting food and wine events.

What is your favorite quote?
Just play.  Have fun.  Enjoy the game. – Michael Jordan

What is your best fitness advice?
Your fitness is personal. It is not one size fits all. You have to experiment to find what fits you.   Once you find it, go for it!
