Peak Performance Sports Training (PPST) Q/A 1. Is the program right for me? If you are a high school, college, professional or recreational athlete and want to run faster, jump higher, move better, be stronger and prevent injury PPSTI is the right program for you. It is also appropriate for individuals who would like to improve their every day level of functioning. 2. How difficult will the class be? There are different levels of classes offered. The open class consists of novice athletes or individuals who take the class for exercise. The competitive class consists of high school, college, and recreational athletes who want to perform better in their sport. The competitive class operates at a much higher intensity. In each class the instructor is conscious of individual ability levels and will make modification to ensure safety while maximizing benefits. Both classes progress over time in intensity and difficulty.
The length of the overall program will determine the total cost. For example, if you sign up for an eight week program the cost will be $144.00. Current Island health & Fitness members are granted a discount. There is one fee for the program regardless of how many classes you attend. To obtain the maximum benefit we encourage you to attend as many classes as possible. 4. Where are the classes offered? The classes are offered at Island Health & Fitness, 310 Taughannock Blvd., on the second floor in the group exercise room or 3rd floor in the multipurpose room. If you are a member of a sports team or group that has a sufficient number of participants and a large enough space, PPSTI will bring the program to you. 5. Who teaches the classes and what are their credentials? Our instructors have graduated or are currently in an exercise science or related academic program. They have gone through an intensive mentored training program and have been approved by the PPSTI training team to begin teaching. 6. What type of equipment is used? Stability balls, balance discs, medicine balls, sports chords, agility ladders, plyometric boxes, foam rolls, body bars, and resistance bands will be provided for use by participants. 7. How old do I need to be? You must be at least 14 years old to participate in the functional training classes. Exceptions may be made by the PPSTI training team on an individual basis. 8. Will the program make me a better athlete? After completing the program you can expect improvements in speed, agility, strength, and power which should make you jump higher, run faster, move better, be stronger, prevent injury and perform better at your sport.
9. How many participants per class? Functional training classes at Island Health and Fitness are limited to 20 participants. Off-site classes held in school gymnasiums or playing fields may accommodate larger groups or sports teams. 10. Who oversees the program? The PPSTI team includes a sports medicine physician, exercise physiologists, athletic trainers and physical therapists. 11. What do I wear for class? It is important to be comfortable and have good footwear. Shorts or warm-up pants, T-shirt or tank and sneakers are recommended. During inclement weather we require clean and dry sneakers. Please do not wear muddy wet shoes into the group exercise rooms. 12. What if I can’t make all the classes? There is one fee for the program regardless of how many classes you attend.
